林語堂是從閩南走向世界的文化名人。他熱愛家鄉(xiāng)，在他筆下，故鄉(xiāng)是他童年快樂的天堂，晚年更是思鄉(xiāng)情切。
家鄉(xiāng)人民亦熱愛林語堂。1999年10月，薌城林語堂研究會(huì)成立，研究會(huì)努力收集林語堂學(xué)術(shù)研究的信息、文物及有關(guān)資料，編輯出版會(huì)刊，加強(qiáng)與大陸各地和臺(tái)、港、澳及海外林語堂學(xué)術(shù)研究機(jī)構(gòu)的聯(lián)系，積極開展林語堂學(xué)術(shù)研究，熱情宣傳林語堂，讓更多的人了解真實(shí)的林語堂。
為紀(jì)念家鄉(xiāng)的這位文化巨人，薌城區(qū)人民政府在林語堂祖籍地天寶鎮(zhèn)五里沙村興建林語堂紀(jì)念館，2001年10月8日正式開館。
林語堂為我們留下豐富的思想文化遺產(chǎn)，研究他的思想、學(xué)術(shù)、藝術(shù)成就將有利于當(dāng)代中國的文化建設(shè)，林語堂的貢獻(xiàn)必將澤被后人。

Lin Yutang was a cultural celebrity who came from southern Fujian to achievefame all over the world. He loved his hometown, which is described as the paradise inhis childhood in his writings. In his old age, he was increasingly yearning for hishometown.Lin Yutang Seminar was established. This Seminar has made great efforts to collectinformation on the academic studies of Lin Yutang, cultural relics and other relevantmaterials. It has published journals and established various ties with the institutes of LinYutang' s studies in China' s mainland, Taiwan,HongKong,Macao,and overseas.It has also actively conducted academic research on Lin Yutang, enthusiastically spreadLin Yutang' sachievements so as to let more people know him.
In order to commemorate this cultural giant, the people's government ofXiangcheng District built the Lin Yutang Memorial Hall in his hometown WulishaVillage, Tianbao Town. The Hall was officially inaugurated on October 8,2001.Lin Yutang has left us with rich ideological and cultural heritage. Research intohis ideology,academic and artistic achievements will certainly help the construction ofcontemporary Chinese culture and the contribution made by Lin Yutang will benefitall the later generations.The people of his hometown also love Li Yutang.
